Dream Lens V1

Ryan Nimmo
Track 1: CVLTVRE – ABCXYZ
Track 2: Nardo Akaru – OPEN メール 「prod.natemcmilli」
Track 3: Nardo Akaru – 28MANSIONS メ 「prod.smokefilleddream」
Track 4: Blank Banshee – B:/ Start Up
1.About “dream lens”,when did you start the project and whats the video basically about?
Ryan Nimmo and I started the project very recently, about the middle of January. The premise is simple, just having fun with the homies and filming all of the ridiculous things that happen. We have been able to film clips super quickly, especially since there isn’t any sort of standard set for how good our filming or tricks are. It’s just about fun. So we are able to get footage quickly.
2.how did the name “dream lens” come up?is there a “dream lens” Vol.2 coming up?and is it gonna be a seasonal or monthly project?
The name is derived from the lens mostly, haha, Johnny Tang gave me a junky super fisheye for my phone. It makes things look super trippy, sort of like a dream. And skating in Shanghai is so good, it’s also like a dream. Hence the name “Dream Lens.” We are already working on Volume 2, it’s about halfway done. This will be an ongoing project with no deadlines. Whenever we have enough footage we will release another “Dream Lens.” The dream is continuous.
3.It’s basically all cellphone footie, does it take a long time to edit the video out?any tips for how to edit a quick homie footage?
I’m in charge of the filming mostly, Ryan handles all the editing. I am with him during some of the editing to change things and bounce ideas off each other to get some dope shit rolling. But he uses iMovie, it’s a super simple program and it allows you do quick changes to any video footage. As far as tips, just get a cheap/free video editing program and use it. There is nothing special needed when editing simple footage, just do it!
4.great soundtrack selection in the footage, where do you get the songs?and any suggestions for what songs to use in skate videos?
The music we used was all found on bandcamp. It’s a site that features mostly independent artists. If you want some unique music definitely use a site like this. Otherwise you may end up using a song that has been edited into 100 other videos.
can you supply us the soundtrack names?
Track 1: CVLTVRE – ABCXYZ
Track 2: Nardo Akaru – OPEN メール 「prod.natemcmilli」
Track 3: Nardo Akaru – 28MANSIONS メ 「prod.smokefilleddream」
Track 4: Blank Banshee – B:/ Start Up
5.Shanghai Skating 2015, what’s new? and any new movement we should notice?
Shanghai skating is pretty similar to what it has been for so many years. The only noticeable thing is the security forces are becoming a bit stricter around the city. Overall Shanghai skating is relatively hassle free compared to places in the West, such as the U.S.A., so it’s not a big deal yet. As far as new stuff, just keep an eye out for new video clips coming out of Shanghai! Jay Meador is working on an awesome video right now. That should be coming out in the very near future. Brian Kleiber with ICONX has been filming a ton as well. Also, photos, people like Edward Cui have been killing the game on photos recently. Shanghai is full of skateboarders and people who want to document it. Keep an ear to the streets!
